For many audiences, Superman's absolute lack of concern for civilian safety during the climatic fight in Metropolis was about as un-Superman an activity as anything can possibly get. Now in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder speaks out about the collateral damage that was shown in the end of 2013's Man of Steel and how that will tie in with the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences,” says Snyder.
It turns out that the destruction of Metropolis will serve as Batman's primary motivation to take down the Man of Steel.
Batman actor Ben Affleck also echoed Snyder's statement:
"One of the things I liked was Zack’s idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings. And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne’s building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event."
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit the theaters on March 25, 2016.
