Although Dragon age 2 (DA 2) had some glaring flaws but it was also a
step forward in some ways----like the exciting combat & the story
which was more intricate than origins' typical 'build an army, defeat the big bad
evil & save the world' type. The biggest strength of the Dragon age
series is it's world & the people who populate it. After the events
of DA2, some of the questions like what is going to be the solution to
the mages & templars situation, weather the Qunari will plan another
invasion & above all, what is Morrigan up to clouds my mind (probably
yours, too). There's so many ways Bioware can expand the story and refine
the gameplay further. We already know that the next game in the series
will not contain the flaws that DA2 did like the copy-paste
environments, choices that only give an illusion of choice & limited
customizations to the party members. Now as an ardent fan of this epic
dark fantasy series, here's some of the things that I wish to see in the
next game beside the aforementioned ones----
1.No framed Narrative: What I disliked about framed narrative in DA2 is that it implies there are more unresolved mysteries even after Hawke's story. In a framed narrative a gamer can only experience what the teller of the story (Varric) knows. And there are a lot of things he might not know, like was Hawke dead or alive, what was that idol from the deep roads, what "more important things" were those grey wardens doing in act 2. This means that the gamers aren't getting the whole picture, just a part of it & many unanswered questions. While framed narrative is cool at times, it doesn't satisfy the curiosity of the player the way Origins did. As a gamer I would want to experience the story in it's entirety & don't want to left with lots of questions. That's why I hope to never see this in future titles.
2.The truth about Flemmeth: Flemmeth is the most mysterious character in the DA universe. Though she has an uncanny habit of rescuing the characters who will shape the world with their actions, it's hard to tell if she really is a force of good. Whatever she is, the gamers need to know the truth behind her actions this time, in each game Bioware has been building her as some higher power pulling strings from above. After seeing the image of Morrigan I seriously hope Bioware will put an end to all speculations about Flemmeth.
3.Refined Combat: The wave after wave of enemies in an encounter really needs to change. In DA2, it seemed at times that Hawke & Co. killed 5x the people of Kirkwall. Too many enemies popping out of nowhere really kills the immersion. I think Legacy fine tuned this which was more realistic as enemies were coming out from behind closed doors & other 'plausible ways' than in the main game. I would like to see an improvement in this section in the future titles.
4.Whole team finishers: Both DA games have cool finishing moves which is seen after defeating a boss. But all of those finishers constitutes of a single character (usually the protagonist or the character who landed the final blow) pulling those uber--cool moves and killing the boss. Now how awesome would it be if every party member contributes their own signature moves into creating a combined finisher against a boss. Remember the awesome "sacred ashes" trailer from DA:O? Something similar like that. Imagine the High dragon battle in DA2 with a team of rogue Hawke, Fenris, Aveline & Anders. When the dragon is left with an inch of health & just about to die, a cutscene occurs showing every member of the team pulling their own flashy moves weakening or injuring the dragon with Hawke landing the deathblow. I think this would be a worthy addition in the combat of future titles.
5.Closure: Both DA games has been adept at telling the tale of a legendary hero & when the dust has settled & the blood has dried, disappearing into the night. Really, what happened to the Warden & Hawke? These uber tough people can't simply get killed by anything less than an Earth shattering uh, something. While I am not saying that I want the Warden & Hawke as my party member in Dragon age: Inquisition, but I think as a gamer, we deserve to know the full story of the characters we spend so much time building.
6.More Soul: DA2 at times felt really flat & deserted, like a huge grinding experience. There was just too many fetch quests in the game. While I liked the main plot better in DA2, there was no quest that can stand up to (some came close) the great ones of origins like the mage tower or the sacred ashes quest. Those weren't simply quests to forward the main plot, those told captivating stories that created a bond between the gamer & the World. It isn't nearly enough to create a large & believable world if the game fails to tell stories that pulls the player closer to that fictional world.
These are some of the things that as a fan, I would like to see in Dragon age: Inquisition. What do you think about all this? Let me know at the comments section.
